Ashlie Denison

Clinical Team Lead & Speech & Language Therapist

Ashlie is a highly experienced Speech and Language Therapist with nearly 25 years of clinical practice, specialising in ENT and Head and Neck cancer early in her career. In 2009, she relocated from Manchester to London to join the newly established South-East London Community Head and Neck Cancer Team as its first Speech and Language Therapist. In this pioneering role, she developed a strong commitment to delivering gold-standard, personalised rehabilitation within a multidisciplinary framework.

Ashlie has since gone on to lead several Head and Neck clinical teams across London, where she has built a reputation as an ambitious and compassionate leader. In 2021, she returned to Guy's and St. Thomas' NHS Trust as Clinical Lead for the South-East London Community Head and Neck Team, a role which involves managing a large multidisciplinary team and providing strategic and operational leadership across the service.

In her current role, Ashlie has led and supported a broad range of service improvement and research initiatives. Her work includes enhancing service efficiency through demand and capacity modelling, streamlining and redesigning clinical pathways to improve patient safety, and innovating by establishing traditionally hospital-based interventions within community settings, with a strong focus on governance.

Ashlie is a passionate advocate for patient-centred care, ensuring that the patient voice is central to all projects. This is exemplified by her development of a highly successful regional Head and Neck/Thyroid support group. She is also co-author of a recent publication detailing the implementation of an embedded psychology service within the team.

As Clinical Pathway Group Chair for the South-East London Cancer Alliance, she provides strategic leadership in pathway redesign, working across organisations to remove barriers to timely diagnosis and improve outcomes and patient experience.
