Robyn Payne

Clinical Nurse Specialist

I lead the Head and Neck Clinical Nurse Specialist service in Sussex, with extensive experience supporting patients with advanced, metastatic and incurable head and neck cancers across both hospital and primary care settings. Since joining UH Sussex in 2019, I have led the development of services focused on holistic management, symptom control and coordinated care for patients with complex needs.

As a non-medical prescriber and clinical lead, I run independent nurse-led clinics supporting patients receiving systemic anti-cancer treatment. My clinical practice is grounded in clear, honest and compassionate communication, particularly when supporting patients and families through difficult conversations and advanced illness.

I am passionate about improving cancer services and was honoured to receive a Macmillan Cancer Support Quality Improvement Award in 2021 for developing innovative nurse-led services within head and neck cancer care. I was also the first non-medical multidisciplinary team (MDT) lead at UHSussex, a role I held for two years, and I am currently President-Elect of the British Association of Head and Neck Oncology Nurses.

At the BAHNO Conference 2026, I will be speaking on the management of terminal haemorrhage in patients with advanced head and neck cancer.
